After a failed attempt to sell Riverfront Hospital, St. John Health was faced with a dilemma that left many Detroiters believing that the hospital had closed, when in fact, it remained open, but as a full-service emergency room and medical center. Simultaneously, St. John desperately needed to communicate its wealth of professional medical services to adjacent affluent neighborhoods who sought such services elsewhere. All of these things were taking place as the health system was experiencing a transition in leadership.
